About the club

A walking community shaped by the streets and shores of Auckland.

Xakriondghapin is a not-for-profit walking club founded in 2014 in Grey Lynn. We organise three weekly walks, monthly skill evenings and seasonal weekend escapes across the upper North Island.

Every walk is led by a volunteer guide who knows the route well, carries a first-response kit and follows our simple "no one walks alone" promise.

What we believe

Four values that guide every step.

Welcome first

Newcomers are matched with a guide on their first walk so nobody arrives feeling out of place.

Care for the land

We follow the Tiaki Promise on every track and carry out everything we carry in.

Honest pacing

Routes are graded clearly so you can pick a walk that matches your day.

Volunteer-led

Guides, route planners and event coordinators all give their time freely.

Slow conversations

Phones in pockets. We walk to listen, notice and connect.

Year-round rhythm

Rain or shine, our calendar keeps moving with seasonal route changes.

Milestones

From six neighbours to three hundred friends.

2014 · The first walk

Six neighbours from Grey Lynn meet on a Saturday morning to walk to Western Springs. Coffee follows.

2017 · Weekly schedule

The club moves to a published timetable with three walks each week and a shared online calendar.

2020 · Quiet year

Walks pause briefly, then return as small bubble groups exploring local neighbourhoods on foot.

2023 · Coastal series

A 12-walk coastal series links headlands from Whangaparāoa to Cornwallis over a single summer.

· Today

Three weekly walks, a member-built route library and a small gear shop to support the club.
